Well, I wouldn't very well be a "mummy girl" if I didn't wear this uniform!

Actually, the magical linens that adorn my body used to cover my old "vessel."  Three thousand years ago, I was the high priestess of the goddess Isis.. until I was murdered by the high priest of the evil god Set!  My body was mummified in linen, entombed, and protected my spells.  The tomb lay undisturbed until the late 20th Century.  When my reincarnated self found the sarcophagus, I read the inscription on the underside of the lid, and the linen magically wrapped itself around me, imbuing me with strange powers.  Unfortunately, my old body crumbled to dust afterwards!

The linens obey my mental command... when they're not acting as if they had a mind of their own!  The face helps to protect my secret identity.  I've always considered myself something of a "plain jane" kind of gal, and I think the strange mask I wear gives me sort of a distinctive edge... don't you?

Several years ago, I met Ravengirl, the Guardian of the Night. We used to kvetch about being distaff "sidekicks" to the male heroes in our lives.  One night., we met a young "wannabe" heroine, the Damselfly. Damselfly had no powers, and no fighting skills at all.  Things really came to a head when she was beaten up by her boyfriend, Captain Hornet!   I don't mind telling you that that really peeved us off, and we decided to help Damselfly become the best crime fighter she could be.  Along with Sister Saturn, we started to train Damselfly, and in the process, we realized it was high time for us to stand up for ourselves, as well!

That is essentially why formed a club for all female heroes, the Mystery Girls.

Good question!  Masked heroes were once known as "mystery men."  We had thought of calling ourselves "The Women of Mystery," but that sounded a little long-winded (and matronly, if you don't mind my saying.)  Our friend Asteria actually came up with the term "Mystery Girls," saying  that using "girl" was a way of taking back our own power.  I just thought it was catchy, myself.

Many of us Mystery Girls call the northern California city of Bayport our home.

Below the Bayport Museum of Art and History there are several storeys of sub-basements.  Most of them are unused, and I chose one of the levels to be our headquarters.  I even cast a spell over the entrance to shield it from people's view, just in case!

You can also find having coffee at one of our favorite java hang-outs, The Performance Art Café.  Sometimes, we go dancing at a local nightclub, The Portal.  Yes, the Mystery Girls dance!

As far as I know, the Mystery Girls only exist in our own universe... but anyone who is willing to do what she can to right wrongs and fight injustice is welcome to call herself an honorary "Mystery Girl!"

If you are a budding heroine, and need advice on your costume, read this column.

My personal "arch-enemies" (I've always disliked that term!) include Dr. Seth, the reincarnation of the priest of Set who murdered me 3,000 years ago.  There is also the Fearsome Pharaoh, an extremely powerful evil king, and the Green Bat.  Her laugh annoys me!

Together, the Mystery Girls fight a group of nefarious villains who call themselves "The Doctors:" Dr. Bones, Dr. Hades, Dr. D'eath and (of course) Dr. Seth.  They are mad schemers, I tell you!  We have also gone up against a group of female thieve known as the Pearl Necklace Gang.

What a personal question!  Well, I  have gone out on "cases" with the other reincarnated Egyptian hero in Bayport, the Blue Pharaoh.  And, in our civilian identities, we have gone out on dates, but it's nothing serious.  He's nice, but sometimes I think that there isn't the "spark" that there should be...

I don't know... a movie about me? Gosh!  Hmm...although she played such a bad person on the television show "Angel," perhaps Julie Bentz would be a good choice!  What do you think?

Yes, I'm really a blond... next question!! top
